Existential experience through performing Arts.

Stel jezelf kort voor.

Inspired by the past, the artist works in the present, to create in the future. In my research, I realised that I had to take distance from any mannerism and the identification of any form of expression without conditions and margins. In order to capture the physical movement and to study the body from afar, I had to release myself from my physicality, to deconstruct myself.

Wat is meerstemmigheid voor jou en welk(e) aspect(en) ervan houden je vooral bezig?

My research aims at exploring how performing arts, through the creation of a visual universe, allow us to attain the concept of existential experience. This visual universe, created by the distillation of artistic trials, has its own space-time and apperceptions, which will bind the spectator into the act of watching without realising it. The visual universe also allows the inflow of an integrated audio-visual and sensual atmosphere which affects the anthropocentric affections without passing through the spectator’s critical thinking, and thus preventing him/her from observing the event from a distant and safe spot. The approach used in my research seeks to redefine the ephemeral character of the performing arts, as in this artistic field fatality takes places at the same time as birth, creating an emotional memory within the spectator’s recollections. The emotional memory works like dreams, which we often do not take notice of: they happen, but only when they are intense do they enter our memory, together with emotions.

Wat is het idee, voorstel of initiatief dat je wenst voor te stellen?

My goal is the achievement of ongoing research, which will allow the spectator to meet artists and to feel safe, with the chance to converse openly and fearlessly. This research will seek to establish an essential coexistence of human form with the amorphous and the alien, and to find a reason, a cause, and a trial in this abstract environment where spectator and performer become part of it. In order to make it possible for the spectator to accompany me, I must disclose my intentions to him/her; there can be no meaning – nothing of the whole artistic process – left hidden. I wish to convey my intentions and the content of my inner world to the viewer, so that s/he will understand that I am looking for the truth and not the plausible. I consider theatre a form of art because I believe in its transformative power; in it, I find new forms of expression of the ambiguities and uncertainties of our present. The study of violence, memory, terror, eroticism, embarrassment and resistance are the allies of my artistic creation.
