Oproep 2: Duurzaam internationaal werken
My main concern is my carbon footprint. We can't change much as individuals, but the main point we can work on is our use of the planets resources.
In times where we cannot leave the house and only order everything we need online and get it shipped to our homes, I believe are times we must think about the impact we have in those actions. In this interconnected world, we are living right now, interacting over video calls, emails and messages we forget the most important things that make us human and that is social interaction. Collaboration links us together and to have a bigger impact it is important to collaborate with people close to you, working with materials from your area, international group projects should bring materials from those environments together. In times where we are so separated from everything we love, we should create ways of connecting all these things together, creating an exhibition that over distance discusses the same subjects. Two or more places in the world creating an event at the same time using the online digital spaces to connect them together.
My proposal is to connect with the international scene more by digitally connecting spaces that exist at the same time and together. This should open doors to more collaborations and more connection between countries and beliefs. Opening up our borders in our minds and connecting with people we cannot connect within the way we would want to. It would have an impact on Belgium's art world but also all the other countries, museums, curators and artists that would participate in this interconnected art environment. Art needs dialogue and creates dialogue, it should not be held back by closed borders but on the contrary, open them up. Dialogue, communication is the one action that momentarily links people from different backgrounds together. Art should have that possibility.
