Oproep 3: Digitaal werken in de kunsten

Contemplating The Materiality of Digital Media

Naar welke uitdagingen voor digitaal werken in de kunsten gaat je interesse uit?

Inspired by Jussi Parikka's seminal text "A Geology Of Media", the London Alternative Photography Collective would like to creatively interrogate the materiality of digital media. We would do this by researching the unsustainable digital photography working processes, and suggest more sustainable options - which could include recycling, remodelling, recoding and hacking of old cameras.

The LAPC are a collective that actively encourage collaboration and experimentation. The London Alternative Photography Collective was founded by Melanie King in 2013, and has grown from a small group of analogue and alternative photography practioners to a collective which produces large-scale symposiums, exhibitions and workshops. Now, co-directed by Melanie King, Almudena Romero, Diego Valente and Hannah Fletcher, the LAPC is an open collective, which anyone can join. Open to artists who have ideas for projects, the LAPC has always been about promoting the accessibility and creative possibilities of analogue and experimental photography. We aim to support practitioners who challenge traditional ways of using photography to reflect on contemporary issues and aim to provide a platform for skill exchange.

Hoe kan jouw werk met deze uitdagingen een impact hebben op de fairness en duurzaamheid van de kunsten van Vlaanderen en Brussel?

We believe that by looking at the sustainability of digital photography processes, we can encourage others to utilise existing technology surrounding them. Instead of buying new cameras, they will be inspired to reuse and recycle. Using this approach is often much more affordable than using new cameras, thus being more accessible to a larger audience.
