Oproep 3: Digitaal werken in de kunsten
The digital work in the arts interests me as a possibility to form new collaborative alliances with ancestral communities today isolated or difficult to access, whose knowledge and practices with nature can inspire us in the imagination of new necessary life forms, possible to be disseminated on a global scale.
My interest in this call is to form new alliances for the creation of a digital performance in collaboration with shamans from traditional Brazilian communities. Digital access to these shamans today is increasingly possible and the interest in accessing them is due to the search for ancestral knowledge, practices and sensitivities that can inspire new contemporary artistic practices within a context of global environmental collapse. In the specific Brazilian case, the current adversities and threats against native peoples, forests and traditional territories issue vital alerts to artists and activists. Most of the time, shamans operate as spokespersons for these forests and their communities in the mediation of signs, messages and sensibilities from the invisible world to the visible world. The knowledge of shamans brings us different ways of thinking about our relationship with the world and the cosmos, and contact with them can reactivate knowledge and sensitivities that are asleep in contemporary society.
For the creation of the desired digital performance, the alliance with an international institute is interesting and strategic, considering the political context today that is not favorable for Brazilian artists and activists. The Flanders Arts Institute, supporting and stimulating the development of the arts, their political and environmental crossings, reveals itself in alignment with the desire of this artistic practice to be elaborated. The global pandemic today teaches us that we are disconnected from the cycles of nature and that the borders that until then separated us, are only abstractions of a modern project that is now obsolete. In order to reverse the global scenario in the present and future, it is necessary to forge new alliances, both between communities and countries, as well as between humanity and the cosmos.
The pandemic challenges all artists, but especially performative arts.Their biggest challenges is the adaptation of classical theater/performance into online format and lack of interaction between audience members and performers. We want to explore usage of 3D gaming technology in live digital performance as a new form of expression with emphasis on online delivery and interaction with the audience.
